Stephen Plog co-founded The Family Law Advocates in 2021. Mr. Plog has been an attorney since 1998 and has exclusively practiced family law since 2001. He is licensed in both Florida and Colorado. Mr. Plog (Steve) enjoys helping his clients navigate through the legal process, as well as helping them obtain the best possible outcome for themselves and their families. Now, having practiced family law for over two decades, he has a great amount of knowledge, experience, and insight to share on all matters related to divorce and child custody. Some of his legal experience includes successfully arguing in front of the Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals regarding litigation that changed decades-old case law concerning Colorado common-law marriage. While Steve greatly enjoys both complex legal writing and litigating trials in the courtroom, his current role with the Family Law Advocates is largely managerial, focusing on client satisfaction, quality control, and other business aspects of the firm.

With any client interactions he may have, Steve looks forward to helping people understand their rights and options related to their assets and children. He understands each case, and each client is unique.

Stephen Plog was born in Chicago, Illinois. As the child of a university professor, Steve lived in many different cities growing up. Ultimately, his family ended up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he attended New Mexico State University. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, as well as a supplemental pre-law minor. Additionally, Steve completed one year of course work towards a graduate degree in Public Administration at New Mexico State University. Rather than finishing up his graduate degree, he decided to move out East to begin his legal studies. Steve graduated from Quinnipiac University School of Law in Hamden, Connecticut in 1997.

After graduation from law school, Mr. Plog decided to move back West, to the beautiful state of Colorado. He moved there with his twin brother, who had also graduated from law school with him. Steve and his brother started their own law firm in 1998. That same year, Steve met his partner, Laura Stein. In 1999, Plog & Stein, P.C. family law firm was formed. Since then, the firm has helped thousands of people resolve their family law issues.

Seeking to broaden their business and legal base, the decision was made to open a firm in Florida. With the Tampa area being similar in size to Denver, it just made sense as the right location to start the Family Law Advocates and to start a law firm to help family law clients in the Tampa area, as Steve has done for so many years in Denver.

In his spare time, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters. He also enjoys golfing, anything at the beach, and traveling. When time permits, he volunteers to help with charitable endeavors, such as beach clean-ups and the care of unwanted animals. As an avid reader of trivia and useless facts, Steve is a walking encyclopedia of information and uses his semi-photographic memory to help his clients. Of course, the facts he remembers in his cases are more than trivia and are put to good use.
